Golden melodramatic hooves clopped along the trail, carrying their owner down along it. The owner of those hooves was none other than the reclusive Unicorn Guardian, Mystical. His eyes, green today, flickered along the sides of the trail, watching even as his white ears rotated to every sound, listening.
He was extraordinarily good at avoiding contact with others, and knew this forest like the fur on his nose. At the moment, he was traveling down his favorite secret trail to his favorite hidden pool, for lack of anything better to do. Sometimes, being immortal got downright boring.
Suddenly, at a seemingly random interval, the unicorn turned abruptly off of the trail and plunged into the woods to the side, following an invisible trail of his own. After several minutes of this that was bound to have left some burrs in his coat and some rocks in his hooves, the Guardian emerged into a clearing. The light had made it through the trees to glisten on the water, and shine on his white coat and mane, and his gold horn seemed almost to glow. Shaking his head and almost seeming to sigh, Mystical walked over to lower his head to the water, and drink from the small pool, fed by the small waterfall above his head.

(No idea what territory your in but oh well. Sorry for my delay)
Under the cover of the willow tree, guided by the roots of an aging elm. Down the pathways of this world and the next, branching antlers trailed in morning dew. Blood still smudged against the hind of his coat, a dap where he had been wounded in battle with one of his own. Even as a Guardian, he still had chose to live a relatively mortal life, fighting off wolves and locking antlers with young stags. But even he was growing old.
Malyuur had chosen, on his own free will, to slowly fade back into the folds of history. With interventions becoming fewer and fewer, his magic began to fade away. And one day the deer would breathe his last breath, lay down his head, and accepts death after his long years of servitude. Then, some one else could step up to take his place.
Along the trail a patter of hooves, pulsation spreading across the earth. His course had been changed. Plodding along after the ground's movements, Malyuur was brought to the clearing, and from it scouted a familiar face. Words were not needed, for those aging emerald eyes spoke all. There was grave news to be delivered, all was not right in the land of Arej. The leera were getting to logical for their own good.

(Ancient's Forest, probably... So Malyuur knows Mystical? Good, good....)
His long face came up from the pool dripping, the water sparkling as it fell from his mane. He turned his head to the ghostly Malyuur, whom had just emerged into the clearing, and looked him over with a critical eye. The deer guardian was looking worn, far more mortal that he should be, and worried about something, if Mystical was any judge. Malyuur's magic was fading, he knew, but Mystical had chosen to fight to keep his. Even so, with the loss of magic in general, he was having more trouble- not with power, he still managed to keep this, but with control. He could no longer keep his wings from appearing -or not appearing- whenever they thought appropriate, and other small signs. His eyes never stayed the same color, and sometimes he lost the ability to speak. Even so, the solitary Unicorn Guardian rarely spoke on any occasion... such as this. Mystical lowered his head in a bow of greeting, stretching forward to touch his golden horn to Malyuur's prongs in further greeting. He then moved aside and motioned silently for the Deer Guardian to join him with a drink.

All was not well in the land of Arej, foul talk was underway. Nothing went by unnoticed to the Guardians, not a second passed on in which they did not watch. Malyuur's ears were of the trees themselves, that spoke to him the secret of the forest. But every passing day he grew closer to mortality, and closer to death.
Magic was the secret that kept the Guardians alive, for they had been granted it when the earth was carved. All leera had magic, but few with ever conscious of it; coursing through their veins. Without the use of magic, all things die in time. But the Guardians knew how to wield it. In turn, they were granted forever life, as long as they continued using it. Yet some began using it, less and less. Perchance, what they were truly seeking, was mortality.
The Unicorn spoke not a word, for silence was their motif. They still believed in the ancient language of unspoken words, which overtime, everyone had seemed to forget. But they had witnessed the coming of the new age, and lived before the days of logic. They were relics of the past.
Malyuur presented the Great Mystical with the scenes through his mind's eye. Images flashed before the Unicorn's thoughts, presented with the picture of an unknown beast who was neither mountain line nor dire wolf. He showed the fields red with blood, and prophesied his own death. This new clan threatened the safety and sanity of Arej, that had for so long been kept clean. That was the price to pay.

The price?, he inquired. The price of letting go?
Now now, Malyuur... What is going on that I have missed? I have faded into these ancient woods for so long I am not aware of time that is passing.
Mystical raised his majestic head and looked the old Deer Guardian in the eyes, sending his thoughts and mournful confusion with the knowledge that he would pick them up. They had existed long beside each other indeed.
The images that had flashed through his mind were of death, and omens- the death of Malyuur, and the omen of a threat.
A threat he dearly intended to meet and deflect, as the guardian he was.
The time for hiding was over, the Unicorn guardian deemed, and it was about time he started getting in touch with his people.

I am aware my presence in Arej grows shorter as do the days, and I have come to terms with that.
It was the first time in ages Malyuur had so much as transmitted his verbal thoughts into another's mind, it could only be prophecy of a great and looming danger. If the Guardians fell by the fangs of revolt, then what lay in store for these troubled lands? The Gods had proclaimed the gifts of magic, and now that power was coming to wane.
The winter of the worlds would soon be upon them, summer's heat was already starting to fade fast. In the snowshoots of his time, Malyuur imagined his own death, at the claws of Asylum himself. Then the Guardians would be down to eleven, to face the odds and tempt nature itself.
The grave old eyes of the stag shown nothing but forlorn, cradling in them great cause for warning. Mystical must keep his wits about him, or he too would be staring down the gullet of a scavenger.
Through his mind's eye, Malyuur painted a picture of betrayal, and the Unicorn's white coat sullied with blood. Mystical's people slowly walking into the distance, until nothing remained.
They're fading back into lore. And soon, we shall too. Give word to the others, but fear for the betrayer, who's jowls drip with saliva in anticipation for slaughter. Fear the wolf among sheep.

The great stag's voice resonated into the Guardian's mind, Malyuur gazing at him silently, mournfully. Pictures of betrayal, of blood staining that white gold form, shifted between them, denying the light glimmering off of the water and off of his golden horn.
Of his son, he saw that mirror image of himself looking back once, and then turning and disappearing into the mists of time.
They're fading back into lore. And soon, we shall too. Give word to the others, but fear for the betrayer, who's jowls drip with saliva in anticipation for slaughter. Fear the wolf among sheep.
Mystical shook his slim head, white mane shimmering. We've been fading into Lore for a long time... It's time that I die, too.... I'm old, Malyuur, as old as time. And I'm the only thing holding them back.
.... When the time comes, Malyuur...
"Good luck."
